I have. Imo, not worth the hype. That's the problem with big expectations especially with movie adaptations. With a sequel coming, there's always room for improvement ofc.

So I've been reading Dante's Inferno...

And it's interesting.

Re: Books

Post by naruto'sramengirl on Sun Mar 25, 2012 5:32 pm

It's an epic written by Dante about his journey through the nine circles of Hell. It's a great read, but it can't really confuse a person if you're not used to the terminology for references in it. I liked it though. There are actually three parts. Dante's Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradisio. It's based off of Catholocism's version of the afterlife: Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise (Heaven). The entire thing is called the Divine Comedy. I have yet to read the Purgatorio or Paradisio, but I plan to.

Right now I've started reading Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children (it seems like it's going to be weird and creepy . . . I like). And Young Bond: Double or Die (the author was really creative with his puzzles and mystery so far).

I've always been curious about Dante's inferno, I've never read it and I don't think I will in the near future, but I guess it always seemed somewhat interesting to me.

I actually just got a book from the store called Dreamquake but I have yet to read it. It's also the second book of a series, and I haven't read the first one yet, which could prove to be problematic.

The negative reviews are definitely scaring me away. I've seen some reviews about how they use a lot of exclamation marks and the portrayal of kids isn't all that realistic. Then again, most of the reviews seem to be positive, so I think I'm just being a Negative Nelly (I've always wanted to say that :D) here. Have you read them? And if so, are they good?

I swear, there are so many books I need to read. Water for Elephants, The Help, and eck, I have a bunch of history books I want to buy. And besides that, there are some cheesy romances I still want to get started on (but since they're cheesy, I don't know if they're too cheesy to be worth spending money on ;a;).

And this isn't exactly a book, but I've been extremely into Gale-centric fanfiction as of the past day or two. I think the fact that I watched the movie without reading the book and have only seen Liam Hemsworth as Gale makes it so I irrationally favour Gale.

I only got to book like...7 in the Cirque Du Freak series. My library had the other books checked out and it took too long for them to come back in and I sort of lost interest. At least I think that's how it happened. Anyway, the Cirque Du Freak books are really good. They move at a good pace and they are not boring like at all. They would keep me reading for hours. But that's just from my memory, I havn't read those books for a long time so I don't know if my opinion of them would change or not. But I think you should give them a chance, Kelly.

Yeah, I think I'll take your word on this! They've always looked really interesting anyway. I'll have to see if I can like borrow them from the library or something. Or maybe find a really cheap copy of it on Amazon. Because I really do have a problem with returning books on time, or really, even returning books at all.

I still have to write that Hunger Games slashfic.

On another note, there is a song mentioned in Mockingjay called The Hanging Tree. A beautiful rendition of it can be found here.

Anyone tried:

Maximum Ride: if you like adventure and comedy. About a 14 year old girl and her "family" of 5 kids, which, like her, ended up with wings because they are genetically mutated. One I'm still reading and really enjoy.

Artemis Fowl: Our favorite 12 year old millionaire and criminal mastermind tangled with the wrong fairy. She's the only female in the LEPrecon unit and she has weapons and a fierce personality.

Mysterious Benedict Society: When gifted kids Kate (physically advanced, clever, resourceful) Reynard "Reynnie" Muldoon (advanced in studies) George "Sticky" Washington (super braniac, remembers everything he reads and has ever read word for word) and Constance Contraire (incredibly persistent) pass Mr. Benedict's test, they become part of the Mysterious Benedict Society and suddenly find themselves pitched in a battle against a mad man.

My favorites out of these... I can't decide whether it's Artemis Fowl or Mysterious Benedict Society. Both are good.

I didn't manage to get into Artemis Fowl the first time around. I think I was slightly too young to appreciate them at the time. Should I give them another go, y/n?

On another note, my friend just linked me to this awesome anime-style Harry Potter fanart: http://imgur.com/A9o5X

Definitely. I loved it when I was younger (it's one of the few books that I can say that I actually read when there was little hype about it), though I never did read past the fourth book — I think I just got impatient with waiting for the fifth one and forgot about the series. But really, it's a great series. I recommend it!

Ahaha, I just bookmarked that. It's too amazing not to look at forever and ever.
