A Lyoko Warrior is more than just an avatar with weapons and skills. Each of them is a person, with their own personal quirks and aspects. The traits system is the representation of your character's unique aspects that might not necessarily be able to be translated on a character sheet.

Traits are automatically earned at levels 1,4,7 and 10. At these levels, you will be able to chose any Trait you would like to add. Traits you don't pick up on the first time they appear will still be able to be picked at a later time.

However, not all traits will always be open to pick. Your character is a living entity, so if your character is a kind soul, the "Cold" trait will not be able to be picked unless your character, and more importantly their choices and actions, will reflect that change.

For example, Tony is a horrible, selfish jerk who constantly puts himself above others. At level 4, he can pick from a variety of traits like "Cold", "Selfish", "Apathetic" etc etc. However, between that and 7 Tony starts to have a change of heart and becomes a bit more heroic and likable as a result. When he reaches level 7, he might see the "Enlightened" or "Compassionate" traits now opened up as a result of these actions. His change of heart can now be reflected in his traits.

Traits are independent from reputation; Honesty is not restricted to the boy scouts, Selfish is not for pricks only etc etc. Rather they are simply a reflection of who you are, nice or not.

The traits themselves are all fairly balanced, so there is no "correct" choices of traits. They carry both a passive buff to your character, as well as a hidden bonus that will automatically appear if possible. Therefore, some traits that look inferior on paper may be surprisingly powerful.

Here is the list of traits, as well as their passive buff as of the 2.8 Patch:
